Everyday Andrija plays football outside his grandfather’s cafe in the old town of Split, within the walls of the Diocletian palace. This annoys his grandmother who believes it scares away the tourists from eating there. Deep down his grandfather knows this is true but let’s him play anyway, as he loves nothing more than being near his treasured grandson.
What his grandfather doesn’t know is that everyday Andrija practices he gets better and better. What his grandfather doesn’t know is that at 13 years old Andrija will be asked to play in the youth scheme for his favourite local football team Hajduk Split. What his grandfather doesn’t know is that at 18 years old he will transfer to Bayern Munich and play for Croatia, both in the same year. What his grandfather doesn’t know is that Andrija will become a Croatian footballing legend.
And what his grandmother doesn’t know is that their cafe will become the busiest in the whole of Split because everybody will want to see the place and hear stories of when Andrija practiced outside his grandparent’s cafe.
His grandmother will then tell her customers ”I always told Andrija you play as much as you want my little love’.
